# Rainbow Swim - Business Description
Rainbow Swim is a specialist swimming instruction provider based in Blackburn that makes water safety education accessible to all children, with particular expertise in teaching neurodivergent learners, especially those on the autistic spectrum.
Founded by Adele, an elite swimmer with over 22 years of teaching experience and a BA (Hons) in Early Years, Rainbow Swim operates on the principle that "one size does not fit all." The business addresses a critical gap in provision: whilst one in three UK children leave school unable to swim, this figure rises to 91% for autistic children whose parents withdraw them from lessons due to inadequate understanding of their needs. Disturbingly, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for autistic children under 14, with risk levels 160 times higher than their neurotypical peers.
What sets Rainbow Swim apart is its child-focused, guided discovery approach grounded in early years theory and the EYFS framework. Lessons are flexible and responsive to individual needs, incorporating popular children's characters and themed adventures—from space exploration to tea parties—so children learn swimming skills whilst engaged in play. This creative approach means children often don't realise how much they're learning.
Rainbow Swim welcomes families from three months old upwards, offering both group and one-to-one lessons. Parent and baby classes are inclusive to all carers, fostering positive, safe relationships with water from the earliest opportunity. No diagnosis is required; the philosophy embraces every learner's individuality at all ability levels, making water safety education truly accessible to everyone.
